New WOODS page!

Hey, I know i've posted a lot about my film "I live in the Woods" on this blog... but there's more news about it. I now have a page on my website for the film. It has all kinds of cool stuff, including a bunch of "making of" pictures with descriptions. FUN!

Also, here is a video I put together of time-lapse footage I shot of myself animating while making the film.

I live in the Woods TIME LAPSE! from Max Winston on Vimeo.

In other film news... "I live in the Woods" recently won the "best international short" award at the Toronto After Dark film festival! That was awesome. Too bad I wasn't there. See yeh.

Oh, also, my film now has an IMDB page. Official! See it here.

Engine Room... final episode.

Well, here is the final episode of Engine Room. I've been a little late with posting it... check it out, though.

Appearances by folks like Kevin Smith and Moby. An entertaining episode, and see who won the major dollars! Below is part of my team's final challenge, although we also included print, websites, and some "acting" in our final presentation. Some of this is shown in the full episode. Also, go to the official site here to see some pretty funny bonus footage, including Kevin Smith making fun of someone on the Latin American team.

Engine Room episode 6! TATTOO!

Hey, here's is Engine Room episode 6... a tattoo challenge!

This one was so crazy. We had to design a tattoo for a (super cool) guy... in less than a day's work. Totally nutso, it was. Check it owwwttt below... Or bigger version at the official site here.

The Latin America' tattoo "victim" totally hated his tattoo, too. That was... interesting. Seriously, watch the episode, it's pretty funny. Here's a preview of that.

And alas, more bonus scenes in the tattoo shop. Our tattoo artist was a quiet, but funny guy.

Just got back from the Austin Film Festival in Texas. Austin, what a crazy place! Pretty much the biggest parties I've ever seen, happen every weekend there. In the festival, I saw...

Episode 5: STOPMOTION CHALLENGE!

That's right, Episode 5 of Engine Room is a stopmotion challenge! It was fun. Check it out below or here.

Here's the complete film that my team made.

It's weirder than I even remember! Eh, what can I say.

Here's Bonus footage that shows some funny things including me making sound effects.

This was a crazy experience! We made it super fast. And I was the only one on my team with stopmotion or even storytelling experience, so... I dunno, take a look!

Soon I will do a post on the extreme blandness of movie billboards I have been noticing recently. Just because!

Episode 4 bonus scenes: (aka me laughing like a drunken fool!)

Ha... this band's writing IS reallllly hilarious! I laughed so much I thought my spleen would implode for sure. The band is "We are Scientists" and their writing is... here (click!). I would especially recommend the article "A conversation with Bo". Actually all the "A conversation with" articles. Hilarious. Anyways... tons of funny stuff on there. Maybe you'll like the music, too. Until next time...

MTV Engine Room!

Hey all and all, Some big news! I'm going to be on this MTV reality TV show called Engine Room. I swear, it's true. I just found this extended trailer online for it, check it out. I can't talk about the details of the show, but the video will definitely give you a better idea of what's in store.

Check out the show, it's gonna be funny. And interesting. And crazy. It begins airing this Monday! You can watch it online at the Engine Room Website. It will be fun to watch, especially if you're my friend and want to see me be a dork. So until Monday...

And here's a New York times article about the show.

Also of note, I've been animating on Robot Chicken the last couple weeks, it's very fun. Don't know if I'm allowed to post pictures from that though... another time.

Oh yeah, also, the Engine Room theme song is "YYZ" by Rush, which I think is just awesome.

Podcast! Puppets! Winstons!

Hey hey! Many things have been happening. Things I can't talk about... for now... you will know soon though! For now, check out my very own podcast, called Precious Joke! This first episode is the start of a comedy podcast I am going to do on a semi - regular basis. It will be loads of fun! Just click on that ridiculous looking logo to your right. I encourage you to crank up those fatty speakers of yours for the full effect.

Just in case you don't know, a podcast is like a radio show you can download for free. The "Precious Joke" logo should take you into itunes, where you can download or "subscribe" to my podcast, which will automatically download a new episode when it becomes available. It's really fun, trust me.

Future Episodes will include...

• Dramatic reports "from the pit" of a Slayer concert from the viewpoint of a hardcore conservative evangelical journalist!
• Reenactments of hilarious letters to the editor of bondage magazines from the 40's!
• Interviews with funny people who are actually somewhat "real"! Guaranteed!
• Funny found audio collages and snippets!
• Immersive movie reviews! Experience the madness of ridiculous films first hand! Through audio!
• Oh so much more!

I'm looking forward to supplying you with fun humorous stuff.

In other news, I am working at Screen Novelties as a puppet fabricator, which is amazingly fun. Check out their reel on their site. Amazing cartoony stopmotion.

In not so great news, Effects master Stan Winston passed away on June 15th. He was an amazingly innovative man who led probably the best physical effects studio in the world. They are responsible for the creatures in films like Alien, Jurassic Park, Terminator and Predator to name just a few. Just wanted to give some respects to the Stan Winston legacy. And no, I'm not related... Here's an awesome picture from the book about his studio that I just read recently.

The object in this photo is a test mockup for the Alien in the movie... Alien. It is made from cardboard boxes and garbage bags and stuff like that. I love this photo because it shows that even with the most high - end special effects, you have to start simple to understand what you are doing and getting into. You can learn from even the simplest doo-dad.

Ok then, I hope that you enjoyed this long post. Check out the podcast!

"I live in the Woods!" Trailer

Hey everybody! I made a trailer for my newest film "I live in the Woods". I don't want to post the whole film online yet because I'm submitting it to festivals right now and some festivals will not accept it if it is online. We'll see how that goes. So for those of you that have not seen it yet, here's a sneak peek thingy...

p.s. I recommend clicking on the video's link below to watch it in HD! It looks a lot better!

"I live in the Woods" trailer from Max Winston on Vimeo.

By the way, what's with all this HD madness? There's HD everything now. I've seen HD TV's, HD radio, HD credit cards, even HD newspapers! Seriously! People seem to just be obsessed with how these two letters go together. Pretty soon you'll have the option to give birth to an HD baby. Come on, wouldn't you like to see your child in High Definition?

weird ebay finds

I constantly scour ebay for things. Weird things. Fun things. Important things. Oftentimes pointless, useless things. Here are some strange things I found a while ago. The first one is an actual two - headed pig, and the second one is a mummified wildcat head. These were for sale! Pretty strange and oddly inspirational.

PS: This is not endorsed by ebay. But if they want to give me money, that's great, I'll just use it to buy more stuff from them.

Happy New Year drawings!

Actually I did these last year! But they seem to all be sorta happy in some way... I like drawing straight with pen, with no planning beforehand, that's where these came from. Also, I have decided to do "3 - word movie reviews" with each one of my new posts. People's movie reviews are usually too long, boring, and self - absorbent to read, so I figure I'll keep it short and simple then maybe people can get into it.
